Coaching can make a difference!

I was thinking this morning as I was driving my bus and listening to the comments from the students. The Alabama fans were making excuses, and the Auburn fans were gloating in victory. Many of the phrases were... "What about last year?; What about this year?; It was our kickers fault; You got beat!..." And on and on...

Truth is that coaching can and did make a huge difference. No matter what team you pull for, me being a Tide fan, you must have seen this! The Auburn coach made his team believe in themselves this year. He kept things simple and drove the ball down the throats of Alabama's defense. And pulled his team to one of the greatest Auburn victories ever. It will be remembered by many for a long time.

Think about this Dads... How is your coaching? Are you one that puts belief in your sons heart? Do you encourage or tear down? (Which sometimes tearing down things are necessary if it's harmful to their spirit or body). Moms how are you coaching? Do you convince your daughter to believe in God first and then herself as a beautiful young woman? Dad's, do you hear your sons say the same things you say? Do the same things you do? Coaching can make a huge difference in their lives. A good coach can take gifted players and place them in the right positions and win some games. But a GREAT coach can take a team that is not even supposed to be playing in a game and make them believe they can win and do it!

Also, we have seen that 0:01 can create a game changing event. If it goes one way and the kick is good then the one team will win. If the kick is short and returned 109 yards (grrrrrrrr) then the other team wins. Just like that, Dads and Moms, one flaw or foolish, prideful, selfish act in sin can cause a life changer for those you are coaching.

Ecclesiastes 10:1
Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking savour: so doth a little folly him that is in reputation for wisdom and honour.

It only takes 1 moment of selfish sin to change the way our little players will play. 1 act of rage, 1 act of drunkeness, 1 act of adultery, just 0:01. And the difference is that BOTH teams go away with a loss!

But the great news is that if 1 act of poor coaching can cause a loss, then 1 act of great, Godly, Christ-like coaching can change them forever. Cool thing is that BOTH teams can walk of the field of life with a Victory! And that Victory can only be found in Jesus.

God help me be a Hall of Fame coach to my wife and boys. And when you give me the victors crown may I lay it humbly at your nail-pierced feet.
